Walko Scores 1st Career Goal as Greyhounds Fall at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's soccer team had its four-match winning streak stopped in a 3-1 loss to DeSales University in non-conference action on Wednesday.

The Greyhounds, now 5-3 on the season, had the first three shots of the match with a pair of them blocked and one on goal from sophomore midfielder/forward Valentina Margiottiello in the 18th minute. The Bulldogs would break the scoreless tie in the 25th minute, and DeSales extended its lead to 2-0 just 1:26 later.

Moravian cut the lead in half in the 31st minute when sophomore forward Melissa Walko netted her first career goal on a shot from just outside of the 18-yard box that she dropped over the keepers head. The Hounds nearly tied the match 40 seconds later when senior midfielder /forward Kirsten Schall had a shot sail wide.

The Greyhounds continued to press after the intermission with sophomore defender Emeley Reyes taking a pair of shots including one on goal in the 71st minute. However, the Bulldogs would add an insurance goal when their first shot of the second half found the net in the 77th minute. Reyes would take another shot but Moravian was unable to score again in the contest.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 27 when they will begin their 2014 Landmark Conference season in a match at Goucher College starting at 1:00 p.m.
