Outside of the competition area, Duncan also excelled in the classroom with a 3.84 GPA while majoring in Public Health. She made the Dean's List in each of her eight semesters, and was a member of Moravian's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society induction class in April 2018. Duncan was also a three-time member of the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll.

"I feel like I run short of superlatives to describe Mary Kate," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "She has always been disciplined, focused, humble, and driven. Consequently there's no surprise she accumulated so many awards and accolades during her career here. She worked hard when nobody was watching, and those are the attributes that effectively transfer to success in the classroom and in athletics. Additionally, she's always been great at competing when the lights were the brightest which is how she's been as successful as she has been at large meets to get the attention and achievements she worked so hard to earn."
