Hounds Fall at Ferrum to Finish Spring Break Trip to Virginia

FERRUM, Va. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team dropped a 10-7 non-conference decision at Ferrum (Va.) College Saturday afternoon as the Greyhounds finished their spring trip to Virginia.

Sophomore attack James Carroll led the Hounds, who are now 1-2 on the season, with three goals and an assist while sophomore attack Mark Laratta had a pair of goals. Sophomore midfielder Dominick Gurreri contributed a goal and an assist with two ground balls while sophomore midfielder Alec Oriolo scored the final goal for Moravian. Senior midfielder Chris Mayer and freshman defender Brian Darling each added one assist.

Moravian freshman goalie MacLean Lincoln made eight saves to go with six ground balls while sophomore midfielder Rick Guerra had four ground balls while winning 6-of-13 face-offs. Freshman long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke was 3-for-3 on face-offs for the Greyhounds while Darling scooped up three ground balls.

Ferrum scored the only three goals in the first quarter to lead 3-0 after 15 minutes of action. The Panthers would net the first four goals of the second quarter before Carroll got the Greyhounds on the scoreboard with 6:32 left. Oriolo and Laratta scored in the final 4:15 of the half to cut the deficit to 7-3 at halftime.

Carroll netted the opening goal of the second half with 11:23 left in the third quarter, and Laratta added a goal late in the period; however, Ferrum also netted two goals to hold a 9-5 edge after 45 minutes of action. Gurreri and Carroll scored for the Hounds in the fourth quarter but a goal in the last minute by Ferrum finished off the scoring.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Wednesday, March 15 in a non-conference match versus Alvernia University beginning at 4:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
