  • 37 Moravian Student-Athletes Named to Landmark Spring Academic Honor Roll

    MADISON, N.J. --- The Landmark Conference has recognized 310 student-athletes including 37 from Moravian College by selecting them for the 2012 Spring Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll. The honorees were selected from all eight Landmark Conference institutions.

    CLAREMONT, Calif. --- Senior Abby Schaffer earned All-America honors for a second time this season and fourth time in her two years at Moravian College while junior Micah Leonard earned All-America accolades for the fourth time in her career to lead the Greyhounds’ women’s outdoor track & field team on the final day of the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at Fritz B. Burns Stadium Saturday.

    NEW ORLEANS, La. --- Senior pole vaulter Abby Schaffer of the Moravian College outdoor track & field team has been named the 2012 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III Mideast Region Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year while senior javelin thrower Gary Zack has earned Male Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year honors and javelin coach Bob Luciano earned Male Assistant Coach of the Year accolades announced late Friday.

    BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College honored its 2012 senior student-athletes at its annual Senior Athletics Awards Banquet Wednesday night in Johnston Hall. Women’s track & field standout Abigail Schaffer was named the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete while baseball pitcher Brendan Close was honored with the Outstanding Senior Male Athlete award. The Blue & Grey Scholar Athlete awards were presented to women’s soccer student-athlete Diana Feldmann and baseball player Austin Rock. The H.T.D. Gillespie Award for outstanding service to Moravian’s athletics program was presented to Ray Bishop ’81.

Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Wednesday with the Moravian men rank third in the region while the women are fifth. The men are also ranked 24th in the national poll.

Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Wednesday with the Moravian women moving up to first in the region while the men are second. The men are also ranked 21st in the national poll.

This year’s inaugural event will celebrate student-athletes’ academic achievements and athletic accomplishments, in addition to their campus leadership and their involvement in community service.
