Women's Track & Field Captures 5th Consecutive Landmark Championship

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's track & field team won its fifth consecutive Landmark Conference Outdoor Championship Sunday with four individual and two relays titles on the second day of the meet at Timothy Breidegam Track & Rocco Calvo Field.  Greyhounds' head coach Jesse Baumann and his assistants Dustin Rommel, David Cohen, Joanna Kovacs, Mike Lawryk and Bob Luciano were honored as the Coaching Staff of the Year.

The Greyhounds posted a team score of 250 to finish 106 points ahead of runner-up Susquehanna University, which had 144 points.  Juniata College took third with 138 points while The Catholic University of America was fourth at 117 points.  Rounding out the field were Goucher College with 98 points in fifth place and The United States Merchant Marine Academy in sixth with 19 points.

Freshman Brielle Sutter was part of four titles for Moravian on Sunday.  She won the 200-meter dash in 26.52 seconds, and Sutter captured the 400-meter dash in 58.44 seconds.  Sutter also joined with senior Lisa Williamson and freshmen Morgan Redmond and Brianna Wright to win the 4x100-meter relay in 49.77 seconds.  Sutter, Williamson, Wright and senior Kristina Ruggiero captured the 4x400-meter relay title in 4:03.89.

Ruggiero won the 800-meter title for a second straight year at 2:19.24 while junior Micah Leonard captured the triple jump championship for a third consecutive year with at 11.61 meters (38 feet, 1 1/4 inches).

Moravian's biggest point event of the day was the 200-meter dash as the squad picked up 27 points.  Williamson was the runner-up to Sutter with a time of 26.86 seconds while Wright finished third in 27.05 seconds. Redmond took sixth in the race in 30.11 seconds.

The Greyhounds scored 23 points in the 100-meter dash with Williamson in second at 12.83 seconds, Sutter taking third in 12.94 seconds, Redmond placing fourth in 13.07 seconds and Wright capturing fifth in 13.26 seconds. Moravian added another 19 points in the 400-meter dash with Williamson in third at 1:00.38 and Wright in sixth with a time of 1:01.73 behind Sutter.

Senior Cadee Rockwell was sixth in the 800-meter run to give Moravian 13 points in the event, and the Greyhounds added another 13 points in the 100-meter hurdles with Redmond placing second in 15.39 seconds and sophomore Jaqueline Olmstead taking fourth in 16.22 seconds.

Moravian added eight points in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with sophomore Emma Pacheco finishing third in 12:32.50 and freshman Alyssa Tallon taking seventh at 13:21.58, and the Greyhounds also scored eight points in the 400-meter hurdles with Redmond finishing third in 1:06.59 and Olmstead placing seventh in 1:13.32. Moravian's final three points on the track came in the 5,000-meter run with senior Megan Hallowell finishing seventh in 19:44.60 and freshman Claire DelCasale taking eighth in 19:49.21.

The Greyhounds added 18 total points in the triple jump as freshman Giana Vecchio placed fourth at 10.72 meters (35 feet, two inches) and freshman Hailey Kester placed sixth with a leap of 10.41 meters (34 feet, two inches). Moravian added another six points in the high jump with freshman Alexis Wright finishing fourth at 1.52 meters (four feet, 11 3/4 inches) and Leonard taking eighth at 1.37 meters (four feet, six inches).

In the throwing events Sunday, Moravian had 13 points in the javelin with freshman Allissa Hoffman taking second at 33.04 meters (108 feet, five inches). Alexis Wright was sixth at 30.96 meters (101 feet, seven inches) while freshman Jenny Kratch took seventh at 28.62 meters (93 feet, 11 inches).

Moravian is not scheduled to return to action until Monday, May 7 in a Last Chance Meet at Swarthmore College.
