Leonard & Schaffer Win Events as Women's Indoor Track & Field Places 7th of 15 DII/III at Thomson Invitational

The Moravian College women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Thomson Invitational hosted by the University of Delaware on Saturday, and the Greyhounds finished fifth of 17 in the NCAA Division II and Division III results. The meet is divided into Division I competition and then NCAA Division II and Division III competition. Moravian was ninth of 24 overall teams with 64 points, and the squad was fifth in their division. Rowan captured the women's competition with 119.5 points while The College of New Jersey was second with 119 points. Salisbury University took third with 102 points

Moravian also had two individual champions and a pair of ECAC qualifiers. Senior Abigail Schaffer captured the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 3.90 meters (12 feet, 9 ½ inches), which is second on the TFRRS list and already held by Schaffer. Junior Micah Leonard won the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 10.98 meters (36 feet, ¼ inch). That distance is tied for 26th on the TFRRS list; however, Leonard is already tied for 13th on the list.

In other field results for the Moravian women, freshman Hailey Kester was third in the pole vault with a height of 3.15 meters (ten feet, four inches) while freshman Dana Fineman was sixth at 2.85 meters (nine feet, 4 ¼ inches). Freshman Brielle Sutter was the runner-up in the long jump at 4.81 meters (15 feet, 9 ½ inches) while Leonard was third with a leap of 4.69 meters (15 feet, 4 ¾ inches).

On the track, Sutter finished fifth in the 200-meter dash in 27.62 seconds while senior Lisa Williamson placed sixth in the 60-meter dash in 8.37 seconds. Freshman Morgan Redmond took seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.06 seconds, and she was eighth in the 200-meter dash in 8.49 seconds. Senior Kristina Ruggiero was sixth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:26.69 while sophomore Jennifer Parodi placed seventh in the 500-meter run in 1:31.47. Freshman Brianna Wright was tenth in the 400-meter dash in 1:05.73.

Moravian's 4x400-meter "A" relay squad of Sutter, Redmond, Ruggiero and Williamson finished third with a time of 4:15.40, which is the fifth fastest time in school history.

The Greyhounds will return to action on Saturday, February 4th when Moravian travels to the 13th Annual DeSchriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.
