Women's Indoor Track & Field Finishes 7th at Lehigh

Moravian returned to action after six weeks off by placing seventh of 12 teams at the Mountain Hawk Multi & Invitational hosted by Lehigh University. The Greyhounds had 42 points and were the top team among the four NCAA Division III schools in the meet. Lehigh captured first place overall with 225.5 points while Wagner College was second with 83 points.

The Greyhounds had one individual first place finish in the meet and four ECAC Division III qualifiers including three in the pole vault. Senior Abby Schaffer captured the pole vault at the meet, clearing an ECAC Division III qualifying height of 3.90 meters (12 feet, 9 1/2inches). Schaffer, the defending NCAA Division III National Champion, moved up to second on the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) list among the national leaders. She was already third on the list that student-athletes need to be ranked on to qualify for the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships.

Sophomore Allison Vanek and freshman Hailey Kester also qualified for the ECAC meet, tying for third with a height of 3.35 meters (ten feet, 11 3/4 inches). That height puts Vanek and Kester into a tie for 15th on the latest TFRRS list. In the triple jump, junior Micah Leonard was the runner-up with an ECAC qualifying distance of 11.21 meters (36 feet, 9 1/2 inches), moving up to a tie for 11th on the TFRRS list after entering the meet in 21st place. Kester was tenth in the triple jump at 9.79 meters (32 feet, 1 1/2 inches).

On the track, senior Kristina Ruggiero was fifth in the 500-meter run with a time of 1:23.55, which ranks in Moravian's top ten all-time indoors while freshman Morgan Redmond was sixth in the 60-meter hurdles in 10.14 seconds after a time of 9.64 seconds in the preliminaries. Freshman Brielle Sutter was seventh in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.64 while senior Lisa Williamson finished tenth in the 200-meter dash in 28.10 seconds.

Ruggiero was part of Moravian's "A" 4x800-meter relay team with sophomore Jennifer Smilgis and freshmen Claire DelCasale and Emily Lambright that placed sixth in a time of 10:32.65. The "B" team of senior Megan Hallowell, sophomore Emma Pacheco and freshmen Jessie Goldberg and Alyssa Tallon finished eighth in 11:31.21.
