Micah Leonard Posts Season Best in Triple Jump at Susquehanna Invitational

SELINSGROVE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's indoor track & field team competed for the second time this weekend, participating in the non-scoring Susquehanna University Invitational Sunday.

The Greyhounds had three individual event winners and one ECAC qualifier as junior Micah Leonard won the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying leap of 11.41 meters (37 feet, 5 ¼ inches), which is also tied for the seventh best distance in school history.  The distance time is ninth on the Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS) list to compete at the 2012 NCAA Division III National Championships, moving Leonard up from 15th.  Leonard was also fourth in the preliminaries of the 60-meter dash in 8.42 seconds, and she took eighth in the high jump, clearing 1.32 meters (four feet, four inches).

Freshman Brianna Wright won the 60-meter dash in 8.30 seconds after leading the preliminaries with a time of 8.28 seconds.  Senior Lisa Williamson captured the 400-meter dash for the Greyhounds in 1:02.89.  Williamson was also second in the 200-meter dash in 27.13 seconds while Wright finished third in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 10.36 seconds, and she was seventh in the 200-meter dash in 28.08 seconds.

Freshman Brielle Sutter placed second in the high jump at 1.42 meters (four feet, 7 ¾ inches), and she was sixth in the long jump with a leap of 4.64 meters (15 feet, 2 ¾ inches) and eighth in the 60-meter dash preliminaries in 8.66 seconds.  Freshman Giana Vecchio placed fourth in the triple jump at 9.85 meters (32 feet, 3 ¾ inches), and she was ninth in the 60-meter hurdle prelims at 11.33 seconds.

On the track, sophomore Jennifer Smiglis was third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:32.36 while sophomore Jennifer Parodi placed tenth in 2:37.83.  Sophomore Jacqueline Olmstead was seventh in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles in 11.00 seconds, while senior Megan Hallowell took eighth in the mile run at 5:53.81.  Freshman Jessie Goldberg was ninth the mile with a time of 5:57.53.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action back in Selinsgrove at the Susquehanna Indoor Open on Friday, February 17 starting at 4:00 p.m.  That will be the final tune-up for the Greyhounds before the 2012 Landmark Conference Championships, also hosted by Susquehanna, on Saturday, February 25.
