ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team had an early 3-0 lead before dropping a 16-6 decision at rival Muhlenberg College in non-conference action to start the 2024 season Wednesday.
How It Happened
- The Greyhounds opened the scoring with a goal from junior midfielder Madi Dippel just 1:22 into the contest. Sophomore midfielder Gianna Lotito netted a goal just 34 seconds later, and Dippel's second tally made the lead 3-0 just over three and a half minutes into action. However, the Mules scored four of the next five goals with Dippel scoring again as the contest was tied 4-4 at the end of the first quarter
- Muhlenberg netted five straight goals in the second period before a late goal from junior midfielder Alex Cherenson sent the teams to the intermission with the Mules holding a 9-5 advantage
- Muhlenberg scored the only three goals scored in the third quarter, and the Mules tallied the first three goals of the fourth quarter to build a 10-goal edge. Dippel scored late before Muhlenberg finished off the scoring
Inside the Numbers
- Moravian had five players register a point with Dippel netting four goals to lead the Hounds
- Cherenson added a goal, four ground balls, three caused turnovers and two draw controls while Lotito had a goal and a pair of ground balls
- Sophomore midfielder Victoria Salica contributed two assists while junior attack Jackie Salvatore had an assist and two draw controls in the contest
- Senior defender Keara Reilly posted three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while junior defender Leah Hoskin had a pair of ground balls. Freshman midfielder Bailey Leatherman registered three draw controls
- Sophomore goalie Kayla Graef made 15 saves in her Moravian debut
