Greyhounds Celebrate Senior Day with Victory over Lycoming

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's lacrosse team celebrated its 2024 Senior Day with a 20-10 victory over visiting Lycoming College in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday.

How It Happened

  • The Warriors scored the opening goal of the match while the Greyhounds got on the scoreboard with a goal from junior midfielder Alex Cherenson at the 9:15 mark. Junior midfielder Madi Dippel scored twice in the quarter to give the Blue & Grey a 3-1 lead after 15 minutes of action
  • Cherenson began the second quarter with a goal before Lycoming stopped the Hounds' run. Moravian countered with six straight goals with two by Dippel and one each by junior attack Jackie Salvatore, sophomore midfielder Victoria Salica, freshman attack Melissa Elefonte and freshman midfielder Bailey Leatherman to stretch the advantage to 10-2. The Warriors netted the final two goals of the half to send the squads to the intermission with Moravian leading 10-4
  • The Greyhounds tallied a pair of quick goals to start the third quarter as freshman midfielder Reagan Reiner and Salvatore each scored. Lycoming got both goals back before senior defender Keara Reilly and Dippel found the net. The squads traded the final four goals of the period with Salvatore and Dippel scoring for the Hounds to make it 16-8 Moravian after 45 minutes of play
  • The Blue & Grey scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter as Salvatore and Cherenson both scored twice before the Warriors netted the final two goals of the match
  • Prior to the contest, Moravian honored its four seniors –  defenders Salome Carr, Alise Downey, Keara Reilly and Olivia Williams 

Inside the Numbers

  • Moravian had eight players record a point with Dippel netting six goals to go with five draw controls and three ground balls
  • Salvatore finished with five goals and six assists to give her a school record 51 assists this spring, and Salvatore also recorded nine draw controls and a pair of ground balls
  • Cherenson scored four goals to go with five draw controls and a pair of ground balls while Elefonte had a goal and an assist
  • Reiner, Leatherman, Reilly and Salica each netted one goal with Reilly adding two ground balls
  • Sophomore midfielder Gianna Lotito registered four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while Williams added three ground balls and two caused turnovers and sophomore defender Grace Nelson had three ground balls
  • Sophomore goalie Kayla Graeff recorded four saves in the first half of the contest while freshman goalie Elle Burd had two saves in the second half
  • The Hounds had a 43-19 advantage in shots, a 29-18 edge in ground balls, a 20-11 lead in draw controls and were 17-for-18 on clearing attempts
