Moravian Women Take Third at 2024 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championship; Giamoni Honored as Track Performer of the Year

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's outdoor track & field team took third at the 2024 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships with 142.5 points after the second day of competition hosted by Elizabethtown College Sunday to complete the meet. 

Major Award Winner

  • Junior Abby Giamoni was honored as the 2024 Landmark Conference Outdoor Track Performer of the Year after scoring 23 points with a victories in the 200 and 400-meter dashes and third place finishes in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays

Moravian Event Winners

  • Giamoni won the 400-meter dash with an All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference qualifying, PR and Elizabethtown facility record time of 57.15 seconds, the sixth-fastest time in program history, to score ten points for the Blue & Grey
  • Giamoni also won the 200-meter dash in 25.75 seconds to earn another ten points
  • Sophomore Margie Rayne captured first in the discus with an AARTFC qualifying distance of 40.59 meters (133-2) to garner ten points
  • Sophomore Tara Smurla won the 5,000-meter run in an AARTFC qualifying and PR time of 17:43.97 for her second title of the meet and ten points

Moravian Top 8 Finishers

  • Senior Lexi Groff was the runner-up in the high jump at an AARTFC qualifying height of 1.57 meters (5-1.75) to earn eight points
  • Sophomore Ali Haefele took third in the triple jump with an AARTFC qualifying leap of 11.05 meters (36-3) to score six points
  • Junior Rachael Goodman placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a PR and AARTFC qualifying time of 11:42.06 to garner six points while junior Amber Poniktera was fourth at an AARTFC qualifying timr of 11:43.72 to score five points, freshman Alexis Hockenberry finished fifth in a PR and AARTFC qualifying time of 11:57.13 to earn four points and freshman Alyssa Hockenberry took sixth with a PR time of 12:00.90 for three points
  • The Greyhounds 4x100-meter relay squad of Giamoni, Groff, sophomore Shai Knight and freshman Rachele Grigoli finished third in an AARTFC qualifying time of 49.27 seconds to score six points
  • Moravian's 4x400-meter relay quartet of Giamoni, Grigoli, Knight and junior Ashley Rodrigues took third in a time of 4:11.57
  • Junior Caillie Fish placed fourth in the discus with an AARTFC qualifying distance of 38.57 meters (116-8) to earn five points
  • Sophomore Karalyn Vashey finished fifth in the shot put with a toss of 11.15 meters (36-7) to score four points while Rayne placed sixth at 10.49 meters (34-5) for three points, junior Arin Peykar took seventh with a mark of 10.44 meters (34-3) to earn two points and junior Mikayla Woodring was tied for eighth at 10.41 meters (34-2) to score half a point
  • Grigoli was eighth in the 400-meter dash in 1:01.54 to score a point
