Robert T. Brill, Ph.D., is an associate professor of psychology at Moravian University. 

He completed his undergraduate training at LaSalle University, and his graduate work from the Industrial / Organizational Psychology program at Virginia Tech. 

Dr. Brill was appointed the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) to the NCAA in 2010.  He often serves as a guest coach for the various sports programs, has coordinated lunches to bring students and faculty together, and serves as an informal advisor (secondary to their advisor for their academic major) to student-athletes.  In his role as FAR, Dr. Brill serves on all selection committees for the hiring of new coaches, oversees data collection and reporting requested by the NCAA, provides reports to the faculty on trends and status of student-athletes at the college, disseminates and promotes information about post-graduate scholarship opportunities for student-athletes, and is involved in SAAC and other student programming.

A former Division I soccer player during his undergraduate years at LaSalle University, Bob served as a co-captain his senior year, and was recognized as the college’s male scholar-athlete for that year.  Dr. Brill continues to play soccer for a team in an over-40 league, Lehigh Valley Old Timers Soccer League.

In the classroom, Dr. Brill teaches courses in industrial, organizational, and social psychology, statistics and research methodology, and introductory psychology.  Some special topic courses he offers include Organizational Stress and Occupational Health, Contemporary Work-Life Challenges, and Resiliency and Human Potential.  Dr. Brill was awarded the Lindback Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1996.  The student class twice voted to award him the Timothy Breidegam Award for Outstanding Service to the College Community in both 1993 and 2004.  In those same years, Bob was elected to give the Faculty Commencement Speech to the Graduating class.

Bob’s research interests are in stress and coping with work-life challenges, professional development among nursing students through their clinical experience, and pedagogical assessment.  His pedagogical scholarship has involved service learning and outcomes assessment which merges with the work he had done while serving as the Chair of Moravian’s College Assessment Committee for a decade.  His most recent publication in this area appeared in the 2009 book, “Designing Effective Assessment” (Jossey-Bass Publishers).

Recently, Bob served as the PI and Research Director for a Wall Street West grant supported by the Department of Labor’s WIRED (Workforce Innovations in Regional Economic Development) initiatives. Bob oversaw a team of seven faculty conducting a multifaceted assessment of workforce and economic development efforts targeting the financial service industry sector in the northeastern Pennsylvania area.

As a practitioner, he has undertaken many consulting projects and workshops in the areas of training, communication, performance and needs assessment, as well as employee well-being at a variety of organizations, including the American Red Cross, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Community Services for Children, and Martin Guitars, among others.  He is a member of SIOP (Society for Industrial / Organizational Psychology) and works on SIOP’s Education and Training Committee and Conference Program Review Board.
