Moravian Student-Athletes Continue to Excel in the Classroom

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College student-athletes have been working hard on the playing field as well as in the classroom. The Hounds had 264 student-athletes post a GPA of a 3.0 or better while all of the teams combined posted a 3.06 GPA for the fall 2015 semester.

"Moravian Athletics is proud to be among the leaders in the Landmark Conference in both athletic success and academic achievement," commented Athletic Director George Bright. "Our student-athletes are very motivated to perform and excel at a high level on the field and in the academic setting. We are dedicated to helping our student-athletes achieve excellence in academics, athletics and life career preparation."

Moravian had 19 student-athletes record a 4.0 including members from the following teams: football, men's lacrosse, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track and field, women's cross country, field hockey, softball and volleyball.

"I strongly believe that their success is a collaboration of the student-athletes' efforts along with faculty, coaches and staff to achieve the common goal," Bright said.

The women's soccer team posted the highest overall GPA with a 3.48. Just behind them was the women's cross country team, who posted a 3.39 GPA, and the softball team with a 3.38 semester GPA. The highest men's program was the golf team, which posted a 3.32 GPA, while the men's tennis team had a 3.19 GPA.

The Blue and Grey also had a total of 180 student-athletes among its 264 over a 3.0 that achieved a GPA higher than 3.25 with 120 student-athletes higher than a 3.50 and 66 student-athletes with a GPA higher than 3.75.
