Hounds Drop Snowbird Classic Opener vs. Baldwin-Wallace

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. --- The Moravian College baseball team opened its trip to the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte, Florida with a 5-1 loss to Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) College Sunday afternoon.

The Hounds, now 3-2 on the season, were limited to four hits in the game.

Junior Rhett Jacoby took the loss on the mound, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits and two walks to go along with two strikeouts in five innings of action. Junior Tyler Caraway tossed one inning with an unearned run on two hits and a walk while junior Kevin Shields tossed 1.2 innings with two unearned runs on a hit and two walks to go with two strikeouts. Senior Adam Howard pitched the final 1.1 innings with a hit and two strikeouts.

The Yellow Jackets took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning. The Greyhounds would cut that advantage in half in the bottom of the fifth. Junior designated hitter Tim Heard reached on an error to start the frame, and he would eventually cross the plate on an RBI ground out by sophomore right fielder Carmine Palummo.

Baldwin-Wallace scored a run in the top of the seventh and two more in the top of the eighth frame to finish off the scoring in the contest.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to play two games at the Snowbird Classic on Monday, March 5 with the squad playing Bluffton (Ohio) University at 12:00 p.m. and Otterbein (Ohio) University at 4:30 p.m.
