Hayes & Negron to Play in 2016 D3 Senior Classic

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College seniors quarterback Mike Hayes and running back Chris Negron are scheduled to play for the North squad in the 2016 DIII Senior Classic at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on Saturday, December 17 at 12:30 p.m.

After the first Collegiate Development Football League (CDFL) season in 2009, the college coaches were showing their support with increasing interest in the league's ability to recruit quality talent and fulfill needs within the country's football scouting landscape in general. It was then that George and Peter St. Lawrence decided to broaden the scope of their services by looking to provide more opportunity for small college player's to gain exposure to the pro scouts. The D3 game, now in its seventh year, is exclusively dedicated to showcase the top Division III football players in the country. This game has been highly successful and is undoubtedly the premier post-season scouting opportunity for all of D3 football. Saturday's game is the second game played on the 17th in a 4-bowl games series called the National Scouting Showcase.

"It is a great opportunity for Chris and Mike to be playing in the D3 Senior Classic," commented Head Football Coach Jeff Pukszyn. "It will be a great experience for them to represent Moravian College and meet other players from around the country this weekend. After having a great four years, I'm excited for them to be able to play one more time together."

Hayes finished his third year as Moravian's starting quarterback in November and rewrote the Greyhounds' record book. This past fall while leading the Greyhounds to a 5-5 record, Hayes set school records of 239 completions, 378 attempts, a 63.2 completion percentage, 305.0 yards per game and 2,955 yards of total offense while his and 18 touchdowns in 2016 were the second most in a single season at Moravian. He also had single game records of 516 yards, 37 completions, 64 attempts and 527 yards of total offense this year while tying the mark with four touchdown passes. Hayes completed his career with school records of 6,643 yards, 569 completions, 957 attempts, 59.5 completion percentage, 214.3 passing yards per game and 7,298 yards of total offense and he is second all-time with 47 touchdown passes.

Negron was selected to the 2016 Centennial All-Conference First Team after three years on the Second Team. He registered his third 1,000-yard season this past fall, just the second running back in Moravian history with three 1,000 yards seasons, as he gained 1,020 yards on 208 carries to go with eight touchdowns, and Negron also caught 26 passes for 174 yards and another score. Negron completed his career with school records of 4,355 rushing yards, 855 rushing attempts, 39 rushing touchdowns, 5,136 all-purpose yards, 43 total touchdowns and 258 points while playing in all 41 games of his career.

There are a total of five players from the Centennial Conference in the game with three players from Susquehanna University on the South squad. Moravian's last player to participate in the D3 Senior Classic was Allen Petros in 2011.
