Four Hounds Score as Moravian Blanks Berkeley (N.J.)

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team had four different players score Saturday afternoon including a pair of goals from junior midfielder Connor Phillips as the Greyhounds posted a 5-0 shutout of Berkeley (N.J.) College in non-conference action at John Makuvek Field.

"It is nice to get different guys on the score sheet," commented Head Coach Todd Ervin. "Being able to get a number of players some time and contributing is always good for the team. It is good for us to be able to rely on different players to come on and give us points."

Moravian, now 4-1 on the year, had a 26-7 advantage in shots and would get on the scoreboard in the 22nd minute when freshman midfielder Jack Dugan scored his first collegiate goal by tapping in a crossing pass from sophomore defender Rocky Fatuova inside the right post. Phillips made the lead 2-0 in the 31st minute when he headed in a long thrown in by junior midfielder Ron Jones for his fourth goal of the season.

Phillips made the lead 3-0 just 1:54 into the second half when he converted on a penalty kick for a red card on a hand ball in the box. Sophomore forward Kenny Fellows would score in the 64th minute when he found a wide open net to tap the ball into an a cross from the left side by Phillips. Junior forward Hunter Ackerson netted his first marker of the season in the 78th minute when he headed in a crossing pass from freshman midfielder Dylan Evande.

Junior goalie Bryan Yaskowski had two saves while playing the first 80 minutes of the match, and freshman keeper Matthew Miller was in net for the final 10 minutes of the shutout. The Greyhounds also had a team save on a ball that got behind Yaskowski.

"We're getting ready for conference play with a huge test on Monday evening," noted Ervin. "We're just figuring our everything that works for us and everything that we need to tweak just a little bit. I think we're in a really good place right now. We'll see Monday and then get ready to open conference action next Saturday."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Monday, September 19 when the squad hosts Montclair State University in a non-conference match beginning at 7:30 p.m.
