Hounds Play to 1-1, Double Overtime Draw With Susquehanna to End 2016

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's soccer team concluded its 2016 season with a 1-1, double overtime draw versus Susquehanna University in Landmark Conference action at John Makuvek Field Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds finished the season with an 8-4-4 record and a 2-2-3 slate in Landmark Conference play. Moravian entered the match needing a win to clinch its first postseason berth since 2003 while the River Hawks needed just a tie to earn the final spot in the 2016 Landmark Conference Tournament.

It looked as if Moravian might get the victory after junior midfielder Connor Phillips scored on a penalty kick after a hand ball in the box in the 82nd minute for a 1-0 lead. However, just about six minutes later, the Greyhounds were called for a penalty in the corner and Susquehanna scored on the ensuing kick to tie the match and force overtime.

The Hounds finished the match with a 25-11 advantage in shots including 8-0 in the two overtime sessions as they pressed for the win. Freshman midfielder Jack Dugan had a pair of shots on goal in the first overtime while Phillips had the best chance in the second overtime with a shot that went just over the cross bar with five minutes to play.

Moravian junior goalie Bryan Yaskowski had four saves in the contest as he helped the Blue and Grey go 4-0-4 over their last eight matches of the season.

Prior to the contest, the Greyhounds honored seniors forward Saul Marcial  and midfielder Robert McKinley who were playing in the final home match of their careers.
