Hounds Defeat Goucher on Their Way to Fourth Straight Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's basketball team was victorious over Landmark Conference opponent Goucher College Wednesday night by a final score of 72-48 in Johnston Hall as the Hounds remainied undefeated in Landmark Conference action at 6-0.

Leading the way for the Greyhounds was junior forward Camille McPherson, who scored 16 points and grabbed six rebounds. Just behind McPherson was freshman guard Maggie Melhem, who added nine points, two assists, one rebound and one steal while graduate student forward Alexis Wright tossed in eight points, five rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots and two steals. Junior guard Morgan Calabrese also had eight points as well as adding three rebounds and two assists while senior forward Alesha Marcks contributed six points seven rebounds, one block and one steal.

The Greyhounds won the opening tip off and scoring off a Wright layup the Hounds grabbed a 2-0 lead and never looked back.

"We came out and played with a ton of energy and established what we were going to do right from the beginning," commented Head Coach Mary Beth Spirk after the game. "I thought the first half we played excellent, our top ten players played very well. We got some great looks and it is really helpful when you shoot over fifty percent in the first half."

At halftime the Greyhounds led the Gophers 42-21 and shot 57.6% from the field.

"We got a little sloppy towards the end of the game, but overall it was what we wanted to do," stated Coach Spirk. "We wanted to head into our bye and our next couple of games on a winning streak and that's exactly what we did."

Moravian will head out on a four-game road trip starting off with a contest on Wednesday, January 20 at No. 8 The University of Scranton in Landmark Conference action tipping off at 7:00 p.m.
