Women’s Soccer Falls in Tough Match Versus Ursinus College in Home Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- In an evenly fought march, the Moravian College women's soccer squad fell to Ursinus College by a final score of 1-0 in the Hounds 2015 home opener on the HUB Quad Saturday afternoon.

The Greyhounds started off the game with a fast breakaway attack by freshman forward Gabby Stelzmiller, who put the ball just wide on the left side of the net. The Bears and Hounds both battled hard up and down the pitch but at the end of the period Ursinus only held a 3-2 shot advantage.

The second half started the same way that the first half had as Stelzmiller had a great chance that she had put on net but it was just not enough to sneak it past the goalie. Senior midfielder Taylor Blake had a great chance on a free kick late in the second half that she just missed high.

"Our players battled hard and showed we can compete with one of the stronger teams in the Mid-Atlantic region," said Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "I thought we deserved better and felt that it was a game that we deserved to win. We need to keep training hard and get some of our attacking players back to full health."

Senior goalkeeper Jacqueline Zalis made four saves in the game, bringing her season total up to 18 saves.

The Greyhounds will take on Rowan University on Wednesday, September 16 at 4:00 p.m. on the HUB Quad.
