Volleyball Splits Two More Matches on 2nd Day of York Spartan Invite

YORK, Pa. --- For the second straight day, the Moravian College women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the York College Spartan Invitational on Saturday as the Greyhounds fell to Carnegie Mellon University, 3-0, in the opening match of the morning before defeating the host Spartans, 3-2, in their final contest of the tournament.

CMU posted a 25-17, 25-21, 25-20 win to begin the day on Saturday. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Hostetler led the Greyhounds with eight kills and nine digs while freshman middle blocker Taylor Kornmann and junior outside hitter Taylor Jennings each added six kills.

Junior outside hitter Kelianne Comitalo and sophomore middle blocker Victoria Bobyak both had five kills in the match with Bobyak adding two blocks and a service ace. Senior setter Kelly Brown contributed 29 assists while freshman libero Kim Groff had a team high 17 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist Andrea Giardina added eight digs while freshman outside hitter Jaclyn Smith had a pair of blocks for the Greyhounds.

Moravian dropped the opening set York, 25-8, before winning the second set, 25-20. The Spartans took the third set by the identical, 25-20, score before the Greyhounds captured the fourth set by the same score. Moravian finished off the win with a 15-9 victory in the fifth set.

Kornmann paced the Greyhounds with 15 kills and three blocks while Hostetler added seven kills and 13 digs. Jennings contributed six kills while Brown had 32 assists, 14 digs, four kills and three service aces. Bobyak and Comitalo each had four kills while Groff had a team high 22 digs. Smith led Moravian with six blocks while Giardina added nine digs.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action in the first Landmark Conference Round Robin of the season at Susquehanna University next weekend. Moravian will take on The United States Merchant Marine Academy at 3:30 p.m. and The University of Scranton at 6:00 p.m. next Saturday, October 5.
