Former Moravian Cross Country Runners Named to MAC 100 Century Team

MAC 100 Century Teams

ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Moravian College men and women's cross country teams have eight former student-athletes from the 1993-2002 era named to the MAC 100 Century Team.

As a part of the MAC 100 celebration, the Middle Atlantic Conference will recognize top athletes from conference history, naming student-athletes to Century Teams in each sport from each era. Eras were delineated based on conference membership and sport sponsorship. The number of individuals selected per team varies depending upon the nature of the sport. Century Teams were selected from an online fan vote combined with the MAC Sports Information Directors vote. Team members will receive a commemorative gold coin, distributed to their alma matter.

Patrick Egan ('97), was a part of the men's cross country team. He was a four-year letterwinner while qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championships three teams (1993, 1995 and 1996). He was a four-time NCAA All-Mideast Region, two-time MAC champion (1993 and 1995), four-time All-MAC and a four-time team MVP. He helped the Greyhounds win the MAC championship all four years.

The women's cross country team had seven members named to the MAC 100 Century team starting with Kasie Hornberger ('97), who was a four-year letterwinner while being named to the All-Mideast Region Team three times (1994, 1995 and 1996). She was also named to the All-Mideast Region Freshman Team in 1994.

Kristie Reccek ('99) was named an All-American in 1997 All-Mideast Region team in 1996 and 1997, and was on the All-Mideast Region Freshman Team in 1995. She qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships all four years while having one top ten finish (8th place), and she was a MAC Champion in 1998.

Emily Shertzer ('02) was a four-time All-MAC honoree, four-time All-Mideast Region honoree and two-time All-American (2000, 2001). She was also named to the Verizon Academic All-American Second Team in 2001-02 and the MAC All-Academic Team in 1999, 2000 and 2001.

Carla Thomas ('97) was named to the All-Mideast Region team in 1993 and 1994, All-Mideast Region Freshman team in 1993, All-MAC First Team in 1993 and the LVAIAW Athlete of the Year in 1993-94. Her academic honors include GTE Academic All-American First Team in 1997, GTE District II At-Large All-Academic Team in 1996-97 and the MAC All-Academic Team in 1994 and 1996.

Tara Wartman ('98) was an NCAA Division III All-American in 1997 after finishing in seventh place at the NCAA DIII National Championship meet. She was a two-time MAC individual champion in 1996 and 1997. She earned all-Region honors three times, with her highest finish being second. She also finished first in ten different invitationals and was a two-time team MVP in 1996 and 1997. She helped Moravian win four MAC titles while leading the squad to the NCAA National Championship meet four times including a third place finish in 1995.

Tracy Wartman ('96) was named to the All-Mideast Region team all four years (1992, 1993, 1994 and 1995), All-Mideast Region Freshman team in 1992, All-MAC team three times (1993, 1994 and 1995) and the LVAIAW Athlete of the Year twice in 1994-95 and 1995-96.

Heidi Wolfsberger Peoples ('02) was a two-time runner up at the NCAA Division III National Championship race (2000 & 2001), which earned her All-America honors those years. She was a member of the national caliber Cross Country teams (placed 3rd in 2001; appeared in National Championships each year, 1998-2001). She was a three-time MAC individual champion (1999-2001), a member of the All-Mideast Region team all four years (1998-2001). She currently holds the second fastest 6K time in Greyhound history.
