Dillon Farrell named to Capital One Academic All-America Team

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Sophomore Dillon Farrell of the Moravian College men's track & field team has been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District IV NCAA Division III Women's & Men's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

By making the All-District First Team, Farrell is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for Capital One Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced on Tuesday, June 25th.  Moravian has had 41 Capital One Academic All-Americans® including 36 in the last 19 years.

To be eligible for Capital One Academic All-America® accolades, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. Beginning in 2011-12, the program is made up of four levels – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and College Division (NAIA, Canadian colleges and junior colleges).  District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania.

Farrell was named the 2012 Landmark Conference Men's Cross Country Runner of the Year and earned a spot on the Landmark All-Conference First Team after winning the individual title last November and leading Moravian to its second straight Landmark Conference team title. Farrell finished fourth at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional to earn All-Region honors and compete at the 2013 NCAA Division III National Championships at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology last November.

Farrell was named to the 2012 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division III All-Academic Cross Country Team, and he earned a spot on the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll in each season in 2012-13. Farrell, who holds the Landmark Conference record in the 10,000-meter run, was the runner-up in the 10K and third in both the 1,500-meter and 5,000-meter runs at the 2013 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships in April.

Farrell was the 2012 Landmark Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Rookie of the Year, and he has helped the cross country, men's indoor and men's outdoor track & field teams win a total of six Landmark Conference titles in his two years at Moravian.

When not competing, Farrell is the founder and President of MoCo for Coco (raising funds to fight cancer in children), and he is majoring in nursing.
