Greyhound Men Finish 6th at Lafayette 7-Way Meet

EASTON, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team placed sixth of eight teams at the Lafayette College 7-Way Meet Saturday with two individual champions and five ECAC Division III Championship qualifying performances.

The Greyhounds scored 48 points in the meet of schools from all three NCAA Divisions. NCAA Division I Rider University finished first with 166 points while NCAA Division II East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania was second with 128 points.

Senior Travis King won the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 14.56 meters (47 feet, 9 ¼ inches). The distance would put King first on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list that will have the top 20 individuals and top 16 relay teams at the end of the season in each event heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse; however, King's jump had a wind reading of 6.2 and only marks with a +/- 4.0 wind reading are eligible for the list. King's jump would also have broken the Moravian school record if the wind reading had been in the appropriate level. King did have another jump in the meet of 14.42 meters (47 feet, 3 ¾ inches) that had the legal wind reading and is first on the TFFRS list.

Junior David Cariello captured the long jump with a leap of 6.46 meters (21 feet, 2 ½ inches) while freshman Albert Myers placed third at 6.38 meters (20 feet, 11 ¼ inches). Sophomore Chris Ossont was sixth in the long jump at 5.85 meters (19 feet, 2 ½ inches), and Ossont was also sixth in the triple jump at 12.14 meters (39 feet, ten inches).

Junior Timothy Lorah was second in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying mark of 64.16 meters (210 feet, six inches), a distance that puts him second on the TFRRS list. Senior Tyler Potterton was sixth in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying distance of 59.25 meters (194 feet, five inches) that is 17th on the TFRRS list.

Freshman Ryan Karnopp was tied for fourth in the pole vault at a height of 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9 ¼ inches) while freshman Chris Voda  placed sixth at 4.05 meters (13 feet, 3 ½ inches). Junior Frank Yannotta was fifth in the shot put with a toss of 12.85 meters (42 feet, two inches) while freshman Matt Dill was eighth at 11.88 meters (38 feet, 11 ¾ inches) and junior Kyle Kersting finished tenth at 11.65 meters (38 feet, 2 ¾ inches).

On the track, Moravian's 4x100-meter relay team of King, Myers, freshman Gavin Bailey and sophomore Travis Dorsa was seventh in an ECAC qualifying time of 43.57 seconds. Myers was seventh in the 100-meter dash in a ECAC qualifying time of 11.06 seconds, which is 26th on the TFRRS list, and he finished tied for tenth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.68 seconds.

Cariello also had an ECAC qualifying mark 15.51 seconds in the 110-meter high hurdles, which is tied for 25th on the TFRRS list. Senior Donald Noble was fifth in the 1,500-meter run in a time of 4:03.00 while sophomore Alec Duncan was seventh in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:13.78.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Friday, April 5th when the squad travels to the first day of the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton University.
