Men's Track & Field Holds 55-Point Lead after Opening Day at Landmark Championships

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team, looking for its sixth straight Landmark Conference Outdoor title, has a 55-point lead after five events at the 2013 meet being hosted by Goucher College with the results from the hammer throw unavailable. The Greyhounds have scored 112 points while Susquehanna University is second with 57 points.

Moravian had four of the five event champions on the first day. Senior Donald Noble  won the 1,500-meter run in an ECAC qualifying time of 3:59.19, the sixth fastest time in school history, and Noble also won the 10,000-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 32:09.15, the seventh best time in school history.

Junior Kristopher Joint won the long jump with an ECAC qualifying mark of 6.89 meters (22 feet, 7 ¼ inches) while junior David Cariello won the pole vault at a height of 4.43 meters (14 feet, 6 ¼ inches).

The Greyhounds took the top places in the long jump with Cariello finishing as the runner-up to Joint at 6.64 meters (21 feet, 9 ½ inches). Freshman Albert Myers had the same distance as Cariello but was third based on the second best jump for each student-athlete. Senior Jonathan Heberling was fourth at 6.55 meters (21 feet, six inches) while senior Travis King was fifth with a leap of 6.43 meters (21 feet, 1 ¼ inches).

Moravian also took the top three spots in the pole vault with freshman Ryan Karnopp clearing the same winning height as Cariello but needing more attempts. Freshman Chris Voda was third at 4.28 meters (14 feet, ½ inch).

Junior Timothy Lorah was the runner-up in the javelin with an ECAC qualifying toss of 62.23 meters (204 feet, two inches), just 14 inches short of the winning mark, while senior Tyler Potterton was third at an ECAC qualifying distance of 56.11 meters (184 feet, one inch).

Sophomore Dillon Farrell was the runner-up in the 10,000-meter run with an ECAC qualifying time of 32:19.67 while senior Jacob Donchez finished sixth in 33:07.87. Farrell was also third in the 1,500-meter run in 4:02.54 while sophomore Alec Duncan was fifth by four-thousandths of a second with a time of 4:03.548.

In preliminary events on the track, Myers turned in the top qualifying time in the 100-meter dash at 11.34 seconds, and he'll be joined in the finals Sunday by senior Justin Taylor, who had the fifth qualifying time of 11.62 seconds, and King, who was eighth in qualifying in 11.77 seconds. Taylor led the qualifiers in the 200-meter dash with the top mare of 23.13 seconds while Myers qualified fifth at 23.53 seconds. Sophomore Travis Dorsa took fifth in the 400-meter qualifying in 51.62 seconds while freshman Tyler Dwyer qualified sixth in 51.69 seconds.

The second day of the 2013 Landmark Conference Outdoor Championships at Goucher College will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 28th with 14 events to be completed for each gender.
