Men Win 6th Landmark Conference Title; Myers, Noble & Coaching Staff Honored

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's track & field team won its sixth consecutive Landmark Conference Championship Sunday, capturing the 2013 meet hosted by Goucher College by 72.5 points.

The Greyhounds scored 312 points while runner-up Susquehanna University had 239.5 points and The United States Merchant Marine Academy was third with 96 points. Senior Donald Noble was named the Track Athlete of the Year while freshman Albert Myers was honored as the Rookie of the Year. Head Coach Jesse Baumann and his assistant coaches were also honored as the Landmark Conference Coaching Staff of the Year.

Noble won the 5,000-meter run for his third championship of the weekend with an ECAC qualifying time of 15:08.71. Sophomore Dillon Farrell was third in 15:15.60 while senior Jacob Donchez finished sixth in 15:43.51.

Myers won the 100-meter dash in 11.08 seconds while senior Justin Taylor was fourth in 11.59 seconds and senior Travis King was seventh in 11.87 seconds. Myers also won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.52 seconds while Taylor was third in 22.92 seconds.Junior

Kristopher Joint won the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying, Moravian and Landmark Conference record distance of 14.76 meters (48 feet, 5 ¼ inches), a distance that moves him to fourth on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list that will have the top 20 individuals and top 16 relay teams at the end of the season in each event heading to the NCAA Division III National Championships at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. King, who had won the event the last three years, was the runner-up at 14.18 meters (46 feet, 6 ¼ inches) while sophomore Chris Ossont  was third at 13.07 meters (42 feet, 10 ¾ inches) and senior Jonathan Heberling was seventh at 12.09 meters (39 feet, eight inches).

Heberling repeated as the champion in the high jump with a winning height of 1.88 meters (six feet, two inches). King placed third in the event and Joint was fourth with both clearing 1.83 meters (six feet) on a different number of attempts.

Junior David Cariello won the 110-meter high hurdles with an ECAC qualifying mark of 15.29 seconds. Freshman Ryan Sickler was fourth in 16.43 seconds while junior Craig Arner was seventh in 17.15 seconds.

Sophomore Alec Duncan won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:49.23.

The Greyhounds' 4x100-meter relay squad of King, Myers, Taylor and sophomore Travis Dorsa won in an ECAC qualifying time of 43.17 seconds.

Dorsa was fifth in the 400-meter dash in 51.64 seconds while freshman Tyler Dwyer was sixth in 51.71 seconds.

Senior Evan Lick was third in the 400-meter hurdles in 59.68 seconds while Sickler was fourth in 1:00.49 and sophomore Mike Hofmann was eighth at 1:06.45.

Moravian's 4x400-meter relay squad of Taylor, Cariello, Lick and King was fifth in a time of 3:35.09.

Sophomore Parker Munson was the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 41.46 meters (136 feet) while sophomore Frank Yannotta was third at 39.40 meters (129 feet, three inches). Sophomore Jeffrey Gallagher was fourth with a toss of 39.26 meters (128 feet, ten inches) and freshman Jacob Fritz was ninth at 36.12 meters (118 feet, six inches).

Yannotta was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 13.15 meters (43 feet, 1 ¾ inches) while Munson was fifth at the same distance but the second best throw for each competitor broke the tie. Fritz placed sixth at 12.66 meters (41 feet, 6 ½ inches) while freshman Matt Dill was seventh at 12.45 meters (40 feet, 10 ¼ inches) and sophomore Kyle Kersting was eighth at 12.16 meters (39 feet, 10 ¾ inches).

In the hammer throw late Saturday, senior Phillip Torres placed fifth at 42.64 meters (139 feet, 11 inches) while Kersting was sixth at 37.33 meters (122 feet, six inches).

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Monday, May 13th at the Swarthmore College Last Chance Meet beginning at 4:00 p.m.
