Moravian Sending 13 Student-Athletes to ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships

2013 ECAC DIII Indoor qualifiers

NEW YORK, NY --- Moravian College has qualified 13 student-athletes, eight females and five males, to compete at the 2013 Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Rutgers University-Newark at the New Balance Armory in New York City on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd.

The Moravian women were 19th last year, and the women were the ECAC runner-up in 2009 and captured the title in 2008.  The Moravian men tied for 11th at the ECAC meet a year ago and were the runner-up in 2008.  Both teams are coming off of Landmark Conference Championships last weekend, the sixth straight for the women and fifth for the men in the six years of the conference.

On the women's side, freshman Corinne Glass (West Chester, Pa./Avon Grove HS) will be competing in three events for the Greyhounds.  Glass is qualified in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.55 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 1:00.13 seconds, and is part of Moravian's 4x400-meter relay team with sophomores Brielle Sutter (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook HS), Morgan Redmond (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon HS) and Brianna Wright (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin HS) that qualified with a time of 4:06.22. 

Wright will also be competing in the 60-meter dash after a qualifying time of 8.10 seconds while Redmond is entered in the 60-meter hurdles in a qualifying mark of 9.42 seconds.

In the field events, senior Micah Leonard (York, Pa./William Penn HS) will participate in the triple jump with the sixth best qualifying distance of 11.82 meters (38 feet, 9 ½ inches) and the long jump after the fourth best qualifying leap of 5.61 meters (18 feet, 4 ¾ inches). Leonard's triple jump distance set the Moravian record.

Junior Allison Vanek (Riegelsville, Pa./Wilson HS) is one of three Greyhounds set to compete in the pole vault, and Vanek is tied for seventh with a qualifying height of 3.65 meters (11 feet, 11 ¾ inches). Sophomores Hailey Kester (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury HS) and Dana Fineman (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central HS) will also compete in the pole vault after qualifying heights of 3.50 meters (11 feet. 5 ¾  inches) and 3.34 meters (ten feet, 11 ½ inches), respectively.

On the men's side, three of Moravian's five qualifiers will compete in multiple events. Junior Kristopher Joint (Bethlehem, Pa./Parkland HS) will compete in both the long jump and triple jump after qualifying marks of 7.20  meters (23 feet, 7 ½ inches) in the long jump, which is the third best jump, and 14.91 meters (48 feet, 11 inches) in the triple jump, the top qualifying mark and a Moravian school record.

Senior Jonathan Heberling (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh HS) will compete in the long jump with a qualifying mark of 6.74 meters (22 feet, 1 ½ inches) and the high jump at a qualifying height of 1.94 meters (six feet, 4 ¼ inches). Junior David Cariello (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) is scheduled to participate in the 60-meter hurdle trials with a mark of 8.52 seconds and the long jump with a qualifying distance of 6.70 meters (21 feet, 11 ¾ inches).

Senior Travis King (Wilmington, Del./Concord HS) is in the field in the triple jump with a qualifying leap of 14.22 meters (46 feet, eight inches), and freshman Jason Fuehring (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional HS) will compete in the same event with a qualifying mark of 13.51 meters (44 feet, four inches).
