19 Track & Field Student-Athletes Honored by Landmark Conference

TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's and women's indoor track & field teams have had a total of 19 student-athletes honored by the Landmark Conference for their performances at the 2013 Landmark Conference Championships last Saturday at Susquehanna University.

Second-year Head Coach Jesse Baumann and his staff of assistant coaches - Dustin Rommel (sprints/jumps), Mike Lawyrk (pole vault), Bob Luciano (javelin), Joanna Kovacs (throws), Steve Rahn (hurdles), Alyssa Wert (sprints/relays) and Gary Zack (javelin) earned both the Men's and Women's Coaching Staff of the Year honors as they led the women's team to its sixth consecutive Landmark Conference title and the men's squad to its fourth straight and fifth Landmark Conference championship in the six-year history of the conference.

The men's team had junior Kristopher Joint (Bethlehem, Pa./Parkland HS) named the Field Athlete of the Year and senior Donald Noble (Souderton, Pa./Souderton HS) earned Co-Track Athlete of the Year. Joint was a member of the Landmark All-Conference First Team for wins in the long jump and triple jump, and he also earned All-Conference Second Team honors for a runner-up finish in the 4x200-meter relay with senior Travis King (Wilmington, Del./Concord HS) and freshman Ryan Karnopp (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock HS) and Albert Myers (Rahway, N.J./St. Joseph HS). Noble earned First Team accolades in the mile run and the 5,000-meter run after winning each event for the third straight year.

Senior Jonathan Heberling (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh HS) earned First Team for winning the high jump for a second consecutive year, and he was on the Second Team for a runner-up in the long jump. Junior David Cariello (Morristown, N.J./Morristown HS) was on First Team with wins in the pole vault and 60-meter hurdles while Karnopp was on the Second Team in the pole vault and King was a Second Team honoree in the triple jump.

Sophomore Dillon Farrell (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon HS) earned Second Team honors with runner-up finishes in the mile and 5,000-meter runs while freshman Jason Fuehring (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional HS) was the runner-up in the high jump to earn Second Team accolades.

Senior Micah Leonard (York, Pa./William Penn HS) led the women's team as she earned Field Athlete of the Year honors for the third straight season. Leonard was an All-Conference First Team selection by winning the long jump and triple jump, the latter for the fourth straight year, and she was on the Second Team for a runner-up finish in the high jump.

Freshman Corinne Glass (West Chester, Pa./Avon Grove HS) was named the Co-Rookie of the Year, and she made the First Team after winning the 200-meter dash and combining with sophomores Morgan Redmond (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon HS), Brielle Sutter (Saddle Brook, N.J./Saddle Brook HS) and Brianna Wright (Shillington, Pa./Governor Mifflin HS) to win the 4x400-meter relay. Glass was also on the Second Team for a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash.

Wright also earned First Team honors with a win in the 60-meter dash while junior Allison Vanek (Riegelsville, Pa./Wilson HS) was on the First Team for a win in the pole vault and on the Second Team for a runner-up in the 4x800-meter relay with junior Jennifer Smilgis (Macungie, Pa./South Brunswick N.J. HS) and sophomores Devon Bedell (Minot, N.D./Cabrillo Calif. HS) and Alyssa Tallon (Matawan, N.J./Matawan Regional HS).

Redmond was on the Second Team after placing second in the 60-meter hurdles while Sutter earned Second Team honors for a runner-up showing in the 200-meter dash. Sophomore Hailey Kester (Allentown, Pa./Salisbury HS) was second in the pole vault to earn Second Team accolades.
