Greyhounds Win Three Events at Lehigh Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team had four individual even winners at the non-scoring Lehigh University Season Opener Friday evening at the Rausch Fieldhouse in Bethlehem to begin the 2012-13 season.

Sophomore David Cariello and freshman Ryan Karnopp tied for first in the pole vault as both Moravian student-athletes cleared 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9 ¼ inches), and freshman Chris Voda was tied for third at a height of 4.05 meters (13 feet, 3 ½ inches).  Freshman Albert Myers captured the long jump at 6.62 meters (21 feet, 8 ¾ inches) while senior Jonathan Heberling finished third at 6.58 meters (21 feet, 7 ¼ inches).  Cariello took fourth in the long jump at 6.44 meters (21 feet, 1 ½ inches) while freshman Gavin Bailey finished sixth at 6.17 meters (20 feet, three inches) while sophomore Chris Ossont took eighth at 5.62 meters (18 feet, 5 ¼ inches). 

Junior Kristopher Joint won the triple jump with a school record distance of 14.57 meters (47 feet, 9 ¾ inches) while senior Travis King was second at 13.78 meters (45 feet, 2 ½ inches) and Ossont was fifth at 12.70 meters (41 feet, eight inches).  Heberling was also third in the high jump, clearing 1.94 meters (six feet, 4 ¼ inches). 

Junior Yacine Zerdoum won the 400-meter dash for the Greyhounds in a career best time of 50.37 seconds, the fourth fastest time in school history, while Bailey was tied for fourth at 53.59 seconds.  Freshman Tyler Dwyer took sixth in the race in 53.74 seconds while freshman John Barr was eighth in 54.22 seconds.  Zerdoum also placed fourth in the 200-meter dash in a time of 23.34 seconds while Barr was seventh at 23.69 seconds and sophomore Travis Dorsa finished ninth in 24.20 seconds.

Sophomore Dillon Farrell took seventh in the 800-meter run in 2:01.85.  The Greyhounds took third in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:37.98 with Dorsa, Farrell, Barr and Dwyer running the race.

In the hurdles, Cariello was second in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.70 seconds while junior Craig Arner finished tenth in 9.36 seconds.  Sophomore Mike Hofmann took tenth in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.71 seconds. 

Freshman Matt Dill took fourth in the shot put with a toss of 12.86 meters (42 feet, 2 ¼ inches) while junior Frank Yannotta was fifth at 12.73 meters (41 feet, 9 ¼ inches) and junior Kyle Kersting took eighth at 11.93 meters (39 feet, 1 ¾ inches).  Sophomore Jeffrey Gallagher finished seventh in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 11.56 meters (37 feet, 11 ¼ inches) while senior Phillip Torres was tenth at 10.62 meters (34 feet, 10 ¼ inches).

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Friday, January 18, 2013 at the Orange & Maroon Classic hosted by Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove.
