2013 Outdoor Track & Field team preview

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Moravian College men and women's outdoor track & field teams opens their 2013 season in Virginia this weekend with the distance runners competing at the Washington & Lee Carnival Friday evening and the rest of the team participating in the Tribe Invitational at the College of William & Mary.

Both Greyhound squads, under the direction of second-year head coach Jesse Baumann, are picked to repeat as Landmark Conference Outdoor Track & Field Champions for the sixth straight year for both squads.

The men's squad returns senior Donald Noble, the 2012 and 2013 Landmark Indoor Track Athlete of the Year, and sophomore Dillon Farrell, the 2012 Outdoor Rookie of the Year in the distance events.

Seniors Jonathan Heberling and Travis King along with junior Kristopher Joint have all won Landmark titles in the jumps both indoors and outdoors to anchor Moravian's jumping squad. King is the three-time defending champion in the triple jump outdoors while Joint earned All-America honors in the long jump at the 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor Championships two weeks ago.

Junior David Cariello, Yacine Zerdoum and Craig Arner and sophomore Travis Dorsa will lead the sprints and hurdles for the Greyhounds.

Senior Tyler Potterton, who qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships last spring in the javelin but was unable to compete, juniors Timothy Lorah and Frank Yannotta and sophomores Jeffrey Gallagher and Andrew Loehwing head the throwing squad for Moravian.

The women's squad returns senior All-American jumper Micah Leonard from last season. Leonard is a five-time All-American including two weeks ago in the triple jump, and she is a three-time Landmark Conference Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Sophomore sprinter Brielle Sutter won both the 200 and 400-meter dashes both indoors and outdoors at the conference meets in 2012 while sophomores Morgan Redmond and Brianna Wright also return to lead the sprints and hurdles team. Freshman Corinne Glass adds to the Greyhounds' sprinters after earning Landmark Conference Co-Rookie of the Year honors at the indoor Championships.

Sophomores Claire DelCasale, Jessie Goldberg and Emily Lambright will head the distance runners for Moravian while junior Allison Vanek, who earned All-America honors indoors, is the top returning pole vaulter along with sophomore Hailey Kester. Both Vanek and Kester will compete in the other jumping events as well.

Leading the way for throws will be sophomores Jenny Kratch and Allissa Hoffman along with freshman Tyler Clore. Sophomores Alexis Wright, who earned All-America honors on the basketball court during the winter, and Giana Vecchio give the Greyhounds depth in the jumping events.
