McCarthy & McGrath Garner ECAC Player of the Week Accolades

DANBURY, Conn. --- Moravian College junior defensive back/punter Jimmy McCarthy and senior defensive back Chris McGrath have been selected as Corvias Co-ECAC Division III Southeast Special Teams and Defensive Players of the Week.

McCarthy, who was the Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week and also garnered a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week, contributed in different phases of the Greyhounds' 27-21 win at Juniata College last Saturday. The first time McCarthy came onto the field to punt, he ran a fake 24 yards for a first down on a drive that would end in a touchdown. McCarthy would punt three times in the contest, averaging 32.3 yards.

McCarthy is also Moravian's holder for extra-points, and he scored a two-point conversion in the game on a run and nearly threw for a second two-point conversion after a bad snap on the final PAT attempt of the contest. McCarthy also returned one punt for five yards, and he was on the field as the up returner for all of the kickoff returns at Juniata.

On the defensive side of the ball, McCarthy contributed three tackles and his Centennial Conference-leading fifth interception of the season midway through the fourth quarter in the red zone to stop a Juniata scoring threat.

McGrath would help seal the victory in Huntingdon with two interceptions in Juniata's three drives including the final possession inside the 20-yard line. McGrath's first interception and 13-yard return set up a short field for the Moravian offense on the game-winning touchdown drive. McGrath finished the game with seven tackles and three passes defended including knocking down a pass at the end zone on the final play of the first half.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to finish their 2014 season on Saturday, November 15 when Moravian hosts rival Muhlenberg College at Rocco Calvo Field with a 12:00 p.m. kickoff.
