Field Hockey Falls in Final Seconds to Wesley

Field Hockey Falls in Final Seconds to Wesley

The Moravian College field hockey lost to Wesley College, 1-0, Saturday afternoon at Betty Prince Field. Today's game was the team's annual Breast Cancer Awareness Game.

The Wolverines put the pressure on the Greyhounds early. They got off four shots in the 13th minute, two of which Eck saved. Moravian would get a chance to take the lead at the end of the first half when junior forward Tori Poliskiewicz took her shot with 15 seconds left, but Wesley goalie Elizabeth Groom would make the save. The two teams would take a 0-0 tie into the half.

Moravian would have an opportunity to get on the board at minute 44 as they had four shots off and have two penalty corners, but were unable to convert. Later, Eck would then make a great save in the 68th minute, when sophomore Rachel Joyner blasted a shot from the top of the circle. The Wolverines would slip a goal past Eck with just 20 seconds left in the game to take the lead and the eventual win, sophomore midfielder Madison Leone scored for Wesley.

Sophomore goalie Andrea Eck made nine saves and had a shutout until the final seconds of the game.

Groom and junior goalkeeper Amanda Hudson would each play a half in net for Wesley. Groom made two saves, while Hudson had one.

Moravian returns to action Tuesday, October 18 when they travel to Mercy College for a non-conference game. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Greyhounds return home Thursday, October 20 when they host Cedar Crest College. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Betty Prince Field.
