Moravian Comes Back to Defeat Neumann, 3-1

The Moravian College field hockey team scored three second half goals to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit to defeat host Neumann University, 3-1, in non-conference action Tuesday evening.

The Greyhounds have won three straight matches and are now 5-1 on the season, the best start for the program since the 1992 squad started the season, 8-0, before setting the school record with ten wins.

The Knights jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute when junior midfielder Camille Emel scored an unassisted goal.

Moravian junior forward Tori Poliskiewicz would tie the match with an unassisted goal in the 53rd minute with her second goal of the season, and freshman midfielder Catherine Duffin put the Greyhounds in front with an unassisted tally in the 60th minute for her third goal of the season. Freshman forward Erica Worthington finished the scoring for Moravian with a goal off of a pass from junior forward Briana Van Buskirk in the 68th minute for her second goal of the year.

The Greyhounds had a 14-6 advantage in shots and a 10-7 edge in penalty corners. Moravian sophomore goalie Andrea Eck had three saves in the victory while Neumann sophomore keeper Sam Kotowski had seven saves. Senior midfielder/defender Jennie Greenlee added a defensive save for the Knights.

Moravian returns to action Saturday, September 24 when it opens its 2011 Landmark Conference season versus The Catholic University of America at Betty Prince Field starting at 1:00 p.m.
