MADISON, N.J. --- The Moravian College field hockey team has been selected seventh in the 2011 Landmark Conference season in a preseason poll selected by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.
Four-time defending Landmark Conference Champion Juniata College was picked first in the poll with 65 points while The Catholic University of America was second with 49 points. Drew University earned 42 points to finish third in the poll while Susquehanna University received 39 points to hold down the fourth position. The University of Scranton received 26 points for fifth place while Goucher College had 16 points in sixth place and Moravian rounded out the poll with 15 points.
The Greyhounds look to move forward with the progression the team has posted over the last few years with five returning starters and eight returning letterwinners back for the 2011 season under the direction of head coach Amy Endler. Junior defender Stephanie Pezzello (Holmdel, N.J./St. John Vianney HS), pictured at right, will lead Moravian on the defensive end of the field, returning after making a team high six defensive saves for the second straight season and earning a spot on the 2010 Landmark All-Conference Second Team.
Moravian begins its 2011 season on Thursday, September 1st in a non-conference match versus DeSales University at Betty Prince Field beginning at 4:00 p.m. The 2011 Landmark Conference season will begin on Saturday, September 24th as the Greyhounds host Catholic at 1:00 p.m.
