Kunkle Earns Medalist as Hounds Win Alvernia Invitational

MOHNTON, Pa. --- Moravian College freshman Kevin Kunkle fired a season-low, even-par round of 72 to earn medalist honors as the Greyhounds captured first place as a team at the Alvernia University Fall Invitational played at the LedgeRock Golf Club Tuesday.

The Hounds finished with a four-man total of 302, their best score of the season and two strokes ahead of Messiah College. Elizabethtown College and York College of Pennsylvania were tied for third at 325.

Kunkle led the 56 golfers in the tournament with his first par round of the year. Kunkle's round consisted of five birdies and eight pars as he shot 36 on both the front and back nine.

"Kevin said he hit the ball really solid giving him a lot of good looks and he putted well making five birdies," stated Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "This is his first collegiate victory and will give him confidence for the rest of the season."

Sophomore Aaron Brown finished in a tie for third place with a two-over par 74 that saw Brown make four birdies and eight pars. The round tied Brown's career low. Junior Jim Maru was tied for sixth with a 76, his best round of the season, and Maru carded a par of birdies and 12 pars in his round. Junior Evan Dickinson was tied for 15th with an 80 that included 12 pars while sophomore James Lobb rounded out the Moravian golfers with a 93 that saw him make three pars.

"The guys really played well today on a pretty tough course," Edwards commented. "Kevin and Aaron really played well giving us some momentum for the upcoming events. Jim bounced back after a rough day yesterday. Evan struggled not making a birdie but hung in there and finished with a decent round."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action next Tuesday, October 14 when the squad heads to the Chestnut Hill College Invitational at the Indian Valley Country Club.
