ROCHESTER, N.Y. --- Moravian College junior Jim Maru has been honored as the first Empire 8 Conference Men's Golfer of the Week for the 2015 spring season after his performance last week.

Maru earned medalist honors with a one-over par round of 71 to lead the Moravian College golf team to a second place finish at the Chestnut Hill College Spring Griffin Invitational last Tuesday at the Inniscronne Golf Club to begin the 2015 spring season. Maru's 71 on the par 70 course is his lowest round of the season by five strokes as well as a career-best round in his two and a half seasons with the Greyhounds.

Maru, who was also the first Empire 8 Men's Golfer of the Week to kick off the 2014 spring season and has now won the honor four times in his career, led the 86 golfers after shooting a 34 on the front nine and a 37 on the back nine. He made three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys in the round and captured the individual title, the second medalist honor of his career, by one stroke.

"Jim played really well considering the conditions," commented Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "He had a good fall and it is good to see he is continuing his good play to start the spring season."

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 31 in the Alvernia University Spring Invitational teeing off at 12:00 p.m. at the Ledge Rock Golf Club.
