Hounds Tie for 4th at F&M Spring Invitational

LANCASTER, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team completed its 2015 spring season by finishing tied for fourth at the Franklin & Marshall College Spring Invitational played at the Bent Creek Country Club Monday.

The Greyhounds tied the F&M White squad with a four-man score of 306 while the F&M Blue team finished three over par with a 287 to win the tournament.

Freshman Kevin Kunkle and junior Jim Maru each had three-over par rounds of 74 on the par 71 Bent Creek course to finish in a tie for eighth among the 87 golfers in the tournament Monday. Kunkle finished his debut season with an average of 78.47 strokes per round, the 13th best season in school history while Maru average 78.75 for the year, 18th in the record books and Maru moved up to ninth in Moravian history with an 80.19 career average after three seasons.

Sophomore Dan Leppert tied his season low with a 76, finishing in a tie for 22nd. Freshman Tyler Smith was tied for 39th Monday with an 81 while junior Evan Dickinson had an 83 to finish in a tie for 50th. Dickinson completed the season with an average of 79.31 strokes per round, ranking 22nd in school history for a single season, and he is now 12th in the record books with a career average of 80.56.

The Greyhounds played 16 rounds of golf over 12 tournaments in 2014-15 and did not finish lower than sixth place in any outing. Moravian captured one tournament title and was the runner-up four other times including the 2014-15 Empire 8 Conference Championships that concluded on Sunday. Head Coach Kevin Edwards should have his entire spring lineup back for the 2015-16 season.
