Golf Opens 2018 Spring Season with 8th Place at Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic

HERSHEY, Pa. --- The Moravian College golf team finally had a chance to play its first tournament of the 2018 spring season as the Greyhounds finished eighth of 20 teams at the Elizabethtown College Blue Jay Classic played on the Hershey Country Club East Course Thursday afternoon.

The Hounds had a team score of 333, finishing one stroke behind Lebanon Valley College and just two strokes out of a tie for fifth place. Dickinson College won the cold and windy tournament with a four-man total of 322.

Freshman Victor Tavares led Moravian individually, and he finished in a three-way tie for second place of 103 golfers with a six-over par round of 77 that included a pair of birdies and nine pars. Senior Kevin Kunkle was tied for 24th with a round of 83 that included a birdie and eight pars while senior Tyler Smith finished in a tie for 32nd with an 85 on a card that included one birdie and seven pars. Junior Joe Rochelle was tied for 49th with an 88 that included a birdie and four pars while junior Kody Long was tied for 67th with a 93 that had five pars.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, April 10 in the Ursinus College Invitational at the Stonewall Golf Club at 1:00 p.m.
