Tyler Smith '18 named to Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team Selected by CoSIDA.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College senior golfer Tyler Smith has been selected to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for NCAA Division III schools in District IV.

To be eligible for Google Cloud Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.30 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. District IV in NCAA Division III is made up of schools from Pennsylvania. Moravian has had 48 Greyhounds named Google Cloud Academic All-Americans® selected by CoSIDA.

By making the All-District First Team, Smith is now forwarded onto the national ballot to try for Google Cloud Academic All-America® accolades, which will be announced on June 12. There are a total of three student-athletes from the Landmark Conference on Academic All-District Teams.

Smith finished his degree in accounting with a minor in business management at Moravian earlier this month, and he had a 3.94 GPA. This spring, Smith led he Greyhound with an average of 78.29 strokes per round of 14 rounds including a season-low, even par round of 71 in the second round of the Glenmaura National Collegiate Invitational. He had six top-five finishes in 12 events this year. Smith, who was named Moravian's 2018 Outstanding Senior Male Athlete of the Year, was a three-time member of the Empire 8 All-Conference Team before the Greyhounds began playing in the Landmark Conference. He earned a spot on the First Team in 2017 and was on the Second Team in both 2016 and 2015, when he was also honored as the Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year. Smith finished his career fifth in school history with a career scoring average of 76.82 strokes per round over 54 career rounds. He had one sub-70 round during his career with a 69 at the Franklin & Marshall College Fall Invitational in October 2016.

Off of the course, Smith was a six-time selection to the Empire 8 Conference President's List and was named to the Landmark Conference Spring Academic Honor Roll in 2018. Smith was on the Dean's List every semester, and was a member of Moravian's inaugural Chi Alpha Sigma National Athlete Honor Society induction class in April.

"Tyler is a well deserving of this award," noted Head Coach Kevin Edwards. "He works very hard at his academics and it is nice to see him being recognized for it."
