Women's Cross Country Looks to Finish Strong in Conference This Year

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- With a solid core group of returners the Moravian College Women's Cross Country team looks to keep the momentum going into this season. With six letter winners returning and adding three fresh new faces to the squad the outlook is positive. The women were selected to finish third in the Landmark Conference preseason poll.

With runners returning such as junior Meg Brockett and sophomore Jillian Troisi, the team looks to its veterans to lead them this year. Last season Brockett finished 10th in the Landmark Conference Championship race earning her a spot on the All-Conference Second Team. Troisi was also on the Landmark Conference All-Conference Second Team with an 11th place finish, and she was named to the NCAA Division III Mideast All-Region Freshman squad, as one of the top seven freshmen in the regional race last November.

"We obviously took a big hit losing some runners from last year. However, as we discussed as a team, we still have a high ceiling," commented Head Coach Jesse Baumann. "We have a young core to build off of, who will remain intact for the next two years. We return Jillian and Meg who were seconds from finishing on the All Region team last November, and with Sarah Hughes' spring, and Kirsten Lebo's finish at Regionals last year, we're really optimistic about what they'll bring back for us this year. We just need to find a fifth runner, to compliment that group, but we have a number of young women fully capable of stepping up to the plate."

The Greyhounds will open their season at the Lehigh University Invitational on Friday, September 4 at 5:30 p.m.
