Brockett and Hughes Race to All-Region Honors

NEWVILLE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's cross country teams finished up their season with the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship Saturday morning hosted by Dickinson College at Big Spring High School in Newville.

Finishing in the top 35 to earn All-Mideast Region Honors were juniors Meg Brockett and Sarah Hughes. Brockett placed 28th posting a stellar time of 22:57.7 on the 6,000 meter course while Hughes raced her way to 31st and finished just a few seconds behind Brockett with a time of 23:02.6.

"Going into the meet our goal with Meg and Sarah was to be top 35," stated Head Coach Jesse Baumann after the race. "We talked about what it would take to make NCAAs, and we knew that they would have to have a tremendous race, but as it turns out both were within 20 seconds. We really couldn't have asked for more. Both ran the fastest ever on the course, the goal was All-Region so we are ecstatic with their day and season."

Next across the line for the Greyhounds was freshman Alyssa Limbaugh, who posted a personal best time of 25:03.0. Sophomore Jillian Troisi ran across the line with a time of 25:46.6 while freshman Kelly Gonoude came across the line shortly after running a time of 25:50.3. Rounding out the day for the Hounds was sophomore Kirsten Lebo, who ran a 26:13.9, and junior Larissa Strycharz, who posted a time of 26:27.0.

"The rest of the team did what they could. Jillian and Kirsten who were both top 75 performers last year were hurt for most of the season and still were able to perform admirably. Larissa was ascending all year, and Kelly and Alyssa both has solid starts to their colligate campaigns and will be big contributors for us in the future," stated Baumann.
