TOWSON, Md. --- The Moravian College men's basketball squad has been selected to finish second in the 2017-18 Landmark Conference Preseason Poll picked by the conference's head coaches.
The Greyhounds received 45 points in the poll, finishing behind defending conference champion The University of Scranton and one point ahead of third place The Catholic University of America.
Head Coach Justin Potts begins his third season by bringing back 13 players from last year's 19-9 squad that won the program's first postseason game in 27 seasons with a victory over Susquehanna University in the Landmark Conference Semifinals. The Hounds, who tied the school record with 19 wins a year ago, fell to Scranton in the Landmark Championship game and would also play in the ECAC Division III Quarterfinals.
"It is great to be recognized by the coaches in the league in the preseason poll," noted Potts. "We realize it is just a preseason poll and we need to stay focused on growing as a team during the season. Last year we were picked fifth and finished tied for first so our guys know that the preseason rankings don't win or lose you games that is done on the court. We are a really young team and have a lot of work to do but again it is nice to see the program gain some recognition."
Moravian is slated to start its 2017-18 season on Wednesday, November 15 when the team welcomes rival Muhlenberg College to Johnston Hall for a non-conference game slated to begin at 8:00 p.m. after the women's contest with TV-2 Sports televising the opener live.
