TOWSON, Md. --- Junior forward Oneil Holder netted a career-high 33 points to lead the Moravian College men's basketball team to a 71-61 victory at Goucher College in Landmark Conference action Wednesday evening.
The Greyhounds improve to 12-6 overall and finish the first half of the Landmark Conference season at 4-3 with the win. Holder added 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season and 11th of his career, and he also had four blocked shots for the Blue and Grey,
The only other Hound in double figures was junior guard Nicholas Casazza, who had 10 points, four rebounds and a pair of assists off of the bench. Sophomore forward C.J. Barnes added eight points and three rebounds while junior guard Jimmy Murray had four points, three boards, three assists and three steals as he returned to the line-up after missing one game.
Sophomore guard Mike Martino tied his career high with seven assists to go with four rebounds and three points while sophomore guard Elijah Davis added six rebounds and three points. Senior guard Matt Cardonne and freshman guard Keith Otto both tossed in three points while sophomore forward Addis Ralph added four rebounds, two points and a pair of blocked shots.
Freshman guard Shon Wilson also netted two points for Moravian while junior guard Will Brazukas had four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Senior forward Khalil Rhett and freshman guard Matt O'Connor both had a pair of rebounds in the win.
The Greyhounds connected on 24-of-69 field goals in the contest including 6-of-34 three-pointers, and the squad was 17-for-24 at the foul line. The Hounds had a 47-44 edge on the boards and forced the Gophers into 17 turnovers with their pressure defense.
Holder scored on the opening possession of the game, and his second basket of the night had Moravian leading 6-2. That advantage would slowly be stretched into double digits at 24-14 after a pair of free throws by Wilson with 6:26 left in the first half but Goucher scored 13 of the next 17 points to pull within a point, 28-27, with just over two minutes to play before the intermission. Holder hit the last basket of the half to send the Blue and Grey to the locker room with a 34-29 edge.
The Gophers scored the first four points of the second half to get within a point again before a 9-0 Moravian run capped by a free throw from Otto had the Greyhounds leading 43-33 with 13 minutes to play. Goucher would close within four points, 47-43, with just under nine minutes on the clock before the Hounds stretched the lead to their largest of the night at 63-49 after a jumper from Murray with just 2:34 to go.
Moravian is scheduled to continue its four-game road trip with a Landmark Conference contest at Susquehanna University on Saturday, January 27 beginning at 2:00 p.m. in Selinsgrove.
