NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. --- The Moravian College golf team is in fourth place after the opening round of the 2014-15 Empire 8 Conference Championships at the Yahnundasis Golf Club Saturday.
The Greyhounds first a team score of 327 in the opening round and sit 17 strokes behind defending champion St. John Fisher. The Hounds only trail Stevens Institute of Technology by three strokes for third place.
Junior Jim Maru and freshman Kevin Kunkle each opened the four-round tournament with scores of 80 on the par 71 course to finish the day in a three-way tie for 10th place of the 48 golfers, just five strokes off the lead.
Junior Evan Dickinson is tied for 15th with an opening round 83 while freshman Tyler Smith had an 84 on the first day and is tied for 22nd place. Sophomore Aaron Brown is a stroke back in 25th with an 85 while sophomore Dan Leppert rounded out the Moravian golfers with an 87 on the first day and is in 30th place overall.
The second round will take place on Sunday, September 21 at the Yahnundasis Golf Club while the final two rounds will be played at the Hershey Country Club in April.
