Hounds Fall to Scranton in Landmark Conference Action

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team had an early lead but ended up falling to The University of Scranton, 11-6, in Landmark Conference action on John Makuvek Field Saturday.

Sophomore midfielders Alec Oriolo and Austin Adams each scored two goals for the Greyhounds, who are now 4-5 overall and 0-3 in Landmark Conference play. Sophomore attack James Carroll contributed a goal and an assist while freshman long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had his first career goal. Sophomore attack Mark Laratta also had an assist.

Sophomore goalie Kurt Dick made 20 saves and added two ground balls for the Hounds while sophomore midfielder AJ Cioffi had five ground balls. Freshman defender Brian Darling added four ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers while Carroll, Schicke, Laratta and sophomore defender Brian Biase each scooped up two ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Hayden DuPont caused two turnovers while Schicke and sophomore midfielder Rick Guerra each won a pair of face-offs.

Oriolo opened the scoring for the Greyhounds before Schicke scored his first goal of the season at the 8:29 mark for a 2-0 lead. Scranton netted a pair of goals to tie the match at 2-2 after 15 minutes of action, and the Royals scored the first two tallies of the second quarter for a 4-2 advantage. Adams ended the run with a goal with 9:16 left in the period for Moravian. Scranton added another goal to lead 5-3 at the intermission.

Scranton tallied three goals to start the third quarter before Carroll and Adams found the cage. The Royals added another goal to lead 9-5 after 45 minutes of action. Oriolo would add a goal in the fourth quarter for the Blue and Grey.

Moravian is slated to return to action on Tuesday, April 11 in a non-conference match versus Alvernia University beginning at 4:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
