Men's Lacrosse Falls at Catholic in Final Road Match of 2017 Season

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- The Moravian College men's lacrosse team dropped a 13-7 decision at The Catholic University of America in Landmark Conference action Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore attack James Carroll led the Greyhounds with three goals and an assist while sophomore attack Mark Laratta had two goals and two assists. Sophomore midfielder Alec Oriolo contributed a goal and two assists while freshman attack Jack Gozzard added one goal.

Sophomore goalie Kurt Dick made 14 saves and added a pair of ground balls while sophomore midfielder Rick Guerra won four face-offs and had three ground balls. Freshman long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke was 5-of-9 on face-offs to go with a pair of ground balls while Laratta, sophomore defender John Polich and sophomore midfielder Robert Gellatly each scooped up two ground balls.

Catholic scored the first two goals before Oriolo got Moravian on the scoreboard with 7:48 left in the opening quarter. The Cardinals tacked on three more goals to lead 5-1 after 15 minutes of action. Gozzard scored in the second quarter but Catholic found the net three more times to lead 8-2 at the intermission.

Carroll, Oriolo and Laratta scored in the third quarter while the Cardinals netted four tallies to lead 12-5 after 45 minutes of play. Carroll and Laratta each added goals in the final quarter.

Moravian is scheduled to host The College of Mount Saint Vincent on Wednesday, April 26 in the Greyhounds' final non-conference match of the season beginning at 6:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
