Greyhounds Top Mt. St. Vincent on Senior Night

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- Moravian College senior goalie Michael Smith made his first career start of Senior Day and recorded nine saves to help the Greyhounds post an 18-9 non-conference victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent Wednesday evening on John Makuvek Field.

Sophomore attack James Carroll led Moravian with five goals while sophomore midfielder Alec Oriolo had three goals. Freshman attack Cade Siddron contributed two goals and two assists while sophomore attacks Mark Laratta and Jack Gozzard each had two goals and an assist. Sophomore midfielder Austin Adams netted a pair of goals while sophomore midfielder Dominick Gurreri had one goal and one assist.

Freshman midfielder Kevin Darling netted his first collegiate goal while sophomore midfielder Rick Guerra had an assist to go with a career-high 14 ground balls as he won 19-of-28 face-offs, the third most face-off wins in a match in school history. Freshman long stick midfielder/defender Stas Lembryk added an assist, three ground balls and a face-off win while sophomore midfielder AJ Cioffi had an assist.

Smith also had two ground balls to go with his nine saves while Carroll scooped up six ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Robert Gellatly also had six ground balls while freshman long stick midfielder Jimmy Schicke had five ground balls and won a face-off. Sophomore defender John Polich contributed five ground balls as Moravian has 63 ground balls in the match, three shy of tying the school record.

 "Mike was consistent in goal this evening," stated Head Coach Dave Carty. "Our offense finished good shots, and Ricky was exceptional on face-offs."

Carroll scored just ten seconds into the contest but it was the Dolphins that led, 3-2, after 15 minutes of action. Carroll needed just seven seconds to tie the match at the start of the second quarter, and he needed a total of three straight goals before Adams scored to five Moravian a 6-3 lead with 9:44 left in the period. The Hounds added two more goals in the quarter to head to the intermission with an 8-4 lead.

Moravian tallied four goals in the third quarter to lead 12-7 after 45 minutes of action, and the Blue and Grey netted four goals to start the fourth period and push the advantage to 16-7.

The Greyhounds are scheduled to close out their 2017 regular season on Saturday, April 29 when they host Goucher College in a Landmark Conference match beginning at 6:00 p.m. on John Makuvek Field.
