Moravian Men win NYU DIII Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. --- The Moravian College men's indoor track & field team finished in first place overall of 27 schools in the New York University Invitational at the NYC Armory on Friday.

In the men's field events, junior Scott Goodwin won the pole vault in a height of 4.41 meters (14-5.5), winning a jump off for first place points. In the long jump, freshmen Michael Elo came in sixth place with a distance of 6.39 meters (20-11.75), and Elo continued his success with an eighth-place spot in the triple jump with a distance of 13.06 meters (42-10.25). Following right behind Elo in the long jump was junior Brian Stock coming in seventh place with a distance of 6.28 meters (20-7.25). Freshmen Shane Mastro took eighth place in the shot put with a distance of 13.39 meters (43-11.25). To finish the meet up for the men, junior Hunter Gibson placed ninth in the 35-pound weight throw with a toss of 14.03 meters (46-0.5).

On the track for the men, freshmen Zion Howard finished first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.33 seconds, and Howard crossed the finish line in second place in the 60-meter dash with a time of 6.96 seconds, the fifth fastest time in school history and tied for the 14th fastest NCAA Division III time in the nation this season on the Track & Field Results Reporting System list. The top 18 individuals in each event will compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships next month. In the 60-meter hurdles junior John Spirk posted a personal record while also coming in third place with a time of 8.38 seconds. In the 5000-meter run, the Greyhounds grabbed three spots in the top 8. Sophomore Greg Jaindl placed fourth with a time of 15:47.34 and also went a personal best by 10 seconds. Junior Devon Harris came in seventh place with a time of 15:49.70 and coming in eighth was junior Benjamin Smith with a time of 16:14.78. In the men's 800-meter run, senior Andrew Mitchell is awarded fourth place with a time of 1:56.37. In the men's 3000-meter run, Jaindl placed sixth with a time of 8:50.44. To wrap the meet up on the track the Moravian men's Relay "A" team consisted of Spirk, Howard, senior Mike Kopach and Mitchell finished in sixth with a time of 3:26.62.

The Greyhounds are not slated to return to action until Friday, February 16 when the Hounds travel to Kutztown University for the 6-Way Team Qualifer.
