Three Hounds Hit Milestones as Volleyball Sweeps Wilkes Tri-Match

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. --- The Moravian College women's volleyball team won a pair of contests in a tri-match at Wilkes University on Saturday, defeating the host Colonels, 3-2, and Rutgers-Camden, 3-1, to close out the 2015 regular season.

Moravian opened the day with a 21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-15, 15-12 win over Wilkes that saw the Greyhounds have two players reach milestones. Junior middle blocker Taylor Kornmann posted 19 kills to become the 10th player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills, and she added six blocks and a pair of digs in the victory. Kormann is also ninth in school history with 227 career blocks. Sophomore Jean Markovic became the 12th player to reach 1,000 career digs in the Moravian record books as she led the team with 36 digs in the match.

Sophomore outside hitter Mary Zacher paced the Hounds in the win over Wilkes with 20 kills to go along with 25 digs and a pair of service aces while senior setter Megan Szkolnicki led the Blue and Grey with 51 assist to go with 12 digs, seven kills and three blocks. Freshman middle blocker Erin Tiger had six kills and three blocks in the opening win while sophomore outside hitter Jordyn Jacques had five kills, nine digs and five blocks. Senior defensive specialist Andrea Giardina had 16 digs while junior opposite hitter Jaclyn Smith had three kills, two digs and a pair of blocks.

Moravian then finished the regular season by defeating Rutgers-Camden 25-17, 23-25, 25-18, 25-11. It was Szkolnicki's turn to hit a milestone in the second match as she recorded 38 assists to become the sixth player in school history to reach 2,000 career assists. Szkolnicki also added six digs in the match. Tiger would lead the Hounds with 13 kills and a pair of blocks while Zacher added 12 kills, 21 digs and a service ace.

Kornmann posted 11 kills, nine digs, three service aces and a pair of blocks while Markovic had a team high 23 digs to go with three service aces. Freshman outside hitter Rachel Farmer added four kills and four digs while Jacques contributed five digs and two kills in the win. Freshman setter Rebecca Purcell had seven digs for the Greyhounds while Giardina had five digs and a service ace in her final regular season match.

The Greyhounds are 18-15 overall on the season and will wait until Monday, November 9 to find out if they have qualified for the 2015 ECAC Division III South Tournament.
