Field Hockey Falls to Immaculata in Night Debut on Makuvek Field

BETHLEHEM, Pa. --- The Moravian College field hockey team dropped its first match on the new turf John Makuvek Field under the lights Thursday evening as the Greyhounds fell to Immaculata University, 2-0, in non-conference action.

"It was a great atmosphere to play under the lights and on the turf for the first time," stated Head Coach Amy Endler. "It was awesome, and it has been a long time coming. Our players were excited for it. Unfortunately we couldn't come out with a win tonight but I thought the team played really hard. Our improvement from last week at DeSales to now has been tremendous. I'm really pleased with our progress just we couldn't find the back if the net. We were knocking on the door all night. They ended up with some breakaways that we couldn't recover from. We can't wait to get back out there on Monday night under the lights again."

The Greyhounds would take 16 shots in the match, eight in each half with a total of 13 on goal, and Moravian also had an 11-5 edge in penalty corners. The Blue and Grey had the first shot of the match with sophomore midfielder/forward Elizabeth Hrehovcik putting a shot on the cage just 3:03 into action. Hrehovcik led the Hounds with five shots, and she got one shot past the Immaculata keeper that was stopped by a defender just over eight and a half minutes into the contest. Senior forward Kyla Rodrigues recorded three shots on goal in the match for Moravian.

Greyhounds' senior goalie Megan Kanyuk posted 11 saves in the match to raise her career total to 321 saves which is fourth in school history while senior defender Shauna Poling had a defensive stop in the 20th minute that kept the match scoreless at the time. The stop was Poling's 13th career defensive save to move her into sole possession of second place in the Moravian record books.

Moravian is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, September 10 in a non-conference match at William Paterson University starting at 1:00 p.m.
