Six Greyhounds Selected to Landmark Conference Fall All-Sportsmanship Team

TOWSON, Md. --- The Landmark Conference has named 47 student-athletes including six from Moravian College to the 2016 Fall All-Sportsmanship Team. The All-Sportsmanship Team includes one student-athlete from each institution for each sport and is selected by the players and coaches from their respective team.

The All-Sportsmanship Team recognizes student-athletes who epitomize the ideals of sportsmanship. The student-athletes selected demonstrate fair play, graciousness in victory and respectfulness in defeat. They are ambassadors for the team, both on and off the field, and galvanize their teammates toward their goals. These student-athletes exhibit respect for themselves, teammates, coaches, opponents, officials, spectators, and the greater campus community.

Of the 47 student-athletes on the All-Sportsmanship Team, six were named All-Landmark. Five student-athletes are repeat selections from a year ago, and were described as leaders and difference-makers on their teams.

The All-Sportsmanship Team was created by the Landmark Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in 2013 as a way to highlight student-athletes who are making an impact. The Landmark previously awarded a Sportsmanship Cup before the All-Sportsmanship Team replaced the Cup for the 2013-14 academic year.

Women's Soccer

Senior forward Hanna LaFronz has been named to the Landmark All-Sportsmanship Team as the representative for the Moravian women's soccer squad. LaFronz helped Moravian to a 10-7-1 as the Greyhounds reached the Landmark Conference Championship match for the fourth time in the 10-year history of the conference. LaFronz had an assist for the Hounds in 2016, and she finished her career with two goals and two assists for six points.

"Hannah did an amazing job for us this year as a captain," commented Head Coach Jeff Ykoruk. "She plays the game for all the right reasons and her positive and supportive mentality earned the respect from the entire program the minute she was named captain. She had a rocky start to her senior year with an ankle injury, but that didn't prevent her from always being there for the team. She always puts the team first and never allows her own emotions or disappointments affect the team. She is one of those players that allows a coach to point to and tell our younger players, if your not sure what we want, be like Hannah."

Cross Country

Junior Kirsten Lebo is the women's cross country honoree on the All-Sportsmanship Team for a second straight fall. Lebo ran a time of 26:34.63 to help the Greyhounds finish as the runner-up at the 2016 Landmark Conference Championships hosted by the Greyhounds at Bicentennial Park in Northampton on October 29.

Sophomore Aaron Hofmann was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team for the men's cross country program for a second consecutive year. He posted a time of 30:15.62 at the Landmark Championships to complete his second year with the Greyhounds.

"I've viewed this award as a reflection of good, supportive character, and both Aaron and Kirsten epitomize what that is about," Director of Men's and Women's Cross Country and Track & Field Jesse Baumann said. "They're supportive of their teammates and others, they're students of the sport, they're kind-hearted, and simply put the type of people you want your team to be. They're a good reflection of our running programs here, and ultimately our school and conference as well."

Men's Soccer

Senior midfielder Robert McKinley is the men's soccer team's selection to the All-Sportsmanship Team. McKinley helped the Greyhounds to an 8-4-5 record including a berth in the 2016 ECAC Division III Tournament, Moravian's first postseason appearance since 2003. McKinley had a pair of assists this fall, and he completed his career with two goals and five assists for nine points.

"It's a great achievement for Rob," stated Head Coach Todd Ervin. "His dedication to the team as well as his team first mentality have been a cornerstone for our squad all year "

Volleyball

Senior right side hitter Jaclyn Smith was named to the All-Sportsmanship Team from Moravian's volleyball squad. Smith contributed 95 kills, 57 blocks and 39 digs on the year as the Greyhounds finished 19-15 while reaching the quarterfinals of the ECAC Division III Tournament. Smith had 341 kills, 147 blocks, 121 digs, 15 assists and three service aces in her career.

"Jaclyn has been a wonderful, positive presence on and off the court for us this year," noted Head Coach Shelley Bauder. "She does a great job keeping the team together, working hard and having fun."

Field Hockey

Sophomore midfielder/forward Elizabeth Hrehovcik is the field hockey team's 2016 recipient of the All-Sportsmanship honor. Hrehovcik started all 16 matches for the Greyhounds in 2016 and netted one goal during the season. She has scored five goals in her career with Moravian.

"I am proud of Beth for being a part of the Landmark All-Sportsmanship team," stated Head Coach Amy Endler. "Beth plays the game with enthusiasm and passion, but always treats her opponents and officials with respect and class. I am looking forward to having Beth, and her positive energy, on the team for two more years."
